What is a PlayConnect Playgroup?

PlayConnect playgroups operate to help families with children 0 – 6yrs with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). During the playgroup session caregivers and children participate in a variety of play activities suited to the needs of children with ASD. This provides children with an opportunity to play, learn new skills and socialise with other children. The sessions provide parents with an opportunity to play with their child(ren), learn how to maximise their child’s skill development and meet other families with similar experiences.

Who can attend a PlayConnect Playgroup?

Families that have a child aged from 0 – 6 yrs with ASD or ASD like symptoms and their 0 – 6 yrs siblings. A child does not need to have a formal ASD diagnosis to join.

What is the role of the PlayConnect Playgroup Development Worker?

The PlayConnect Playgroup Development Worker supports parents to facilitate the session and provide a stimulating play environment for their children. Whilst PlayConnect is not a specialist therapeutic provider the development worker can provide families with information about specialist services for children with ASD.
